Design Influence #1

India Hicks

Because the house is so small, I want to create a light and airy feel. So I’m thinking white walls, white painted floorboards and white shutters, then layering these with some pops of colour, mainly greens and blues. Even thought the house is tiny, I’m taking some inspiration from India Hicks’s Harbour Island home, Hibiscus Hill, and her accommodation, the Cricket Pavilion.

I have a small two seater lounge:

I’ll throw my palm-print cushions on it:

I’ll mount the TV on the wall, but I’ve been wondering what to put under it to hold the DVD player. I’ve bought some drawers from the owner, to be painted white and placed there for storage. It is the chest to the left of the one with the bear on it:

I’ve bought the bed and bedside tables in the photo as well, which I’ll also paint white of course, and the ones with the bear on them. This is made out of mahogany, so I’ll leave it the natural timber.

That will be about it for furniture, as I can’t fit much more in, except maybe a small table and two chairs.
